Write using APA format, and include a cover andreference pag Example of ethical situation I have been in before Once while the in the Marine Corps my roommate who had a closet life as a “PotHead” stayed back in the our shared room in the barracks on a long weekend. When I returned he was stoned out and the room was trashed food everywhere and bags of open Pot and seeds spilled on the floor. I had a choice to clean up the mess and hope the Pot smelling dogs that came the barracks on a regular bases didn’t find anything. Or turn him in. I turned him in That was the right thing to do. however it publically wrong for me as every labeled me a snitch and not a Marine’s Marine (in other words I should have dragged his ass out and beat the crap out of him). He got 5 years hard labor and I got transferred overseas to a new base. I believe I did the right thing A incident in the Marine Corps lead to a “right thing to do” over not doing anything. My choice in the matter forced a roommate to Hard Labor and a re-assignment for me. I had to choose career over label (snitch) The Marine Corps taught me there was no grey area we it came to regulations/rules/code of conduct (Article VI) Responsible for my actions, is the catch all for regulations The truth lies in the individual Marine. He (or she) did not join the Marines. Roughly 40,000 try each year. Those who survive the Marine basic training have been sculpted in mind and body. Once he (or she) has earned the title and entered the Brotherhood of Marines, a new warrior must draw upon the legacy of his Corps. Therein lies his strength. In return, the strength of the Corps lies in the individual Marine. The character (often defined as “what you are in the dark”) of these warriors is defined by the three constant Corps Values: honor, courage, and commitment. The three Corps Values: honor, courage, commitment. They make up the bedrock of the character of each individual Marine. They are the foundation of his Corps. These three values, handed down from generation to generation, have made U.S. Marines the Warrior Elite. The U.S. Marine Corps: the most respected and revered fighting force on earth Honor requires each Marine to exemplify the ultimate standard in ethical and moral conduct. Honor is many things; honor requires many things. A U.S. Marine must never lie, never cheat, never steal, but that is not enough. Much more is required. Each Marine must cling to an uncompromising code of personal integrity, accountable for his actions and holding others accountable for theirs. And, above all, honor mandates that a Marine never sully the reputation of his Corps. Simply stated, courage is honor in action — and more. Courage is moral strength, the will to heed the inner voice of conscience, the will to do what is right regardless of the conduct of others. It is mental discipline, an adherence to a higher standard. Courage means willingness to take a stand for what is right in spite of adverse consequences. This courage, throughout the history of the Corps, has sustained Marines during the chaos, perils, and hardships of combat. And each day, it enables each Marine to look in the mirror — and smile Total dedication to Corps and Country. Gung-ho Marine teamwork. All for one, one for all. By whatever name or cliche, commitment is a combination of (1) selfless determination and (2) a relentless dedication to excellence. Marines never give up, never give in, never willingly accept second best. Excellence is always the goal. And, when their active duty days are over, Marines remain reserve Marines, retired Marines, or Marine veterans. There is no such thing as an ex-Marine or former-Marine. Once a Marine, always a Marine. Commitment never dies. Article VI: I will never forget that I am an American, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. My issue I had that I discussed in my journal was about one of my sons, was caught shoplifting. He was on his was to achieving his Eagle Scout award from the Boy Scouts. He fell to peer pressure and was caught. Having lived my life to a higher code that was installed during my stint in the Corps Identify a range of possible solution that could have been considered I could have had him arrested, punishment by grounding or I could have unleashed the wrath of Dad on my son. It was a lesson he would never forget. It was not a beating, it was the fact I told my son I was disappointed in his actions and he would have to earn my trust again What criteria were used in making the decision Many options were available to me, I chose the one that got to his heart Would you use different criteria now Not in a million years, I believe that we can only get better in life with a few failures to trip over once in awhile How would you evaluate the decision?
