I gather that many of you are struggling with the report and have requested some guidelines. I had left it to you to adopt a structure suitable to your chosen corporation, but in light of the widespread confusion, I am giving you some basic guidelines. Feel free to innovate around these.

The purpose of the report is to evaluate how sustainable the business is currently, and comment on the existing sustainability strategy, then make suggestions for improvement and broadly identify the resources necessary to implement the strategy. These resources may include expertise, manpower, capital, etc.

The report should consist of the following elements

1. A 1-2 page Executive Summary

2. An Introduction explaining why the corporation would benefit from a sustainability strategy and the chosen framework. Are you using the People Planet Profit concept, or a triple bottom line approach? If you’re suggestions are more on the CSR lines you may want to use the four faces of Corporate Citizenship.

3. An evaluation of the current strategy and the gaps or the lack of sustainability thinking

4. Your proposed sustainability strategy, which identifies key areas that can be improved, in terms of sourcing, supply chain, by-products etc (these are examples of areas for improvement, your chosen areas for improvement may be different). This section should also list the goals for 2025.

5. A roadmap or implementation plan for operationalising the strategy

6. A conclusion tying the report together.
