Questions:
Assume you are responding to a C-level executive of the company and he or she has asked your opinion
on where the company is and how it should go forward. You are writing a short story; not a novel. The
difference: You could take one or more chapters out of a novel and still get the story line. You take a
paragraph out of a short story and the reader knows something is missing.
So your short story is an executive briefing. You don’t tell the person who commissioned the
study or requested the report material he or she already knows. Founding history is out! You
might start with an opener such as: We are all proud of our previous company growth and
presently there appears to be growth at a decreasing rate. This summary addresses what we
consider problem areas that need to be addressed for future increased growth.
