Body mass index, or BMI, is a measure of weight in humans scaled to the square of the height. If we use data from the entire United States, 2% of individuals have BMI values less than 18.5; 39% have BMI values between 18.5 and 24.9; 36% have BMI values between 25.0 and 29.9; and 23% have BMI values equal to or above 30.0. We have conducted a survey in Framingham, Massachusetts and obtained the following data:
