Submit the project via email in pdf format. Write ‘Math 200 online’ on the subject and nothing else.
Name your document with your full name starting with your last name and include your full name
in the body of the email (not the subject line). I would name my document moss_cindy.pdf and
write Cindy Moss in the body of the email. Two point deduction for not doing this. Sorry but I have
too many students to rename all the files.
If you want to turn in a hard copy it must be submitted by noon December 7.
All work must be typed using tables and math symbols using the equation editor when appropriate.
Word 2007 and above has an equation editor or you can download Daum Equation Editor

available online. If you need help using the editor you can come to my office during office hours or
I can help you during the Virtual Classroom sessions.

zip file to yourself, open it, rename it in pdf format, then send it to me. Otherwise the file will not
come to me in pdf format and the email subject line will not be correct.
Round all answers to 4 decimal places and show all work using hypothesis testing methods outlined
on the lecture notes.
The project will be graded on completeness, correctness, and neatness. All work must be shown
using correct spelling and grammar in an organized fashion.
Horse Racing
Is there a dependency between the starting gate position and
whether a horse finishes in "first place"? If so, which gate(s)
are most likely to produce a winner?
The following data represents the starting gate positions and how the horses finished in terms of

We want to determine which starting position is most probable to produce a winner.
a. Which gate interval has the largest lower limit?
b. Which gate intervals overlap this interval?
c. Using a 0.05 level of significance test whether the proportions of wins from the gates with
overlapping intervals are equal to proportion of wins from the gate from your answer to
part (a). Do separate hypothesis tests for each using methods from the lecture notes.
Conclusion: Which gate(s) are more likely to produce a winner? Explain.
